The London Satyananda Yoga Centre
Yoga and Meditation in the tradition of the Bihar School of Yoga

Meet our Teachers

All our teachers are recognised by the British Wheel of Yoga (UK governing body affiliated with the Sports Council) and by the Bihar School of Yoga, India. Several of them also provide in-service training to the British Wheel of Yoga and run yoga teacher training courses.

Swami Pragyamurti has been Director of the Satyananda Yoga Centre (London) for over thirty years. Her interest in the spiritual path began in the sixties when she came into contact with the teachings of the Bihar School of Yoga and its founder, Swami Satyananda Saraswati. On Swamiji’s instructions she started teaching yoga in 1971 at her house in south London, which we now know as the Satyananda Yoga Centre.

Over the last twenty years Swami Pragyamurti’s main areas of work have included the establishment and teaching of a two year Yoga Teacher Training Course, working with people living with HIV/AIDS, and teaching yoga in prison where she feels strongly about the importance and relevance of yoga and meditation to the inmates.

Her warmth and wisdom demonstrate how the Indian tradition of Sannyasa can be integrated successfully with life in a busy Western city.

Swami Anasakti has been practising Satyananda Yoga for over thirty years and trained directly under the guidance of Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati at his ashram in India.

She has been teaching for over twenty years and teaches in Adult Education, Mental Health, Teachers, One-to-One, Workshops and is passionate in passing on her knowledge gained over the years.

Swami Nirmal has been teaching yoga since 1985, having studied with Swami Satyananda over several years in India. She has deep insight into the Satyananda yoga & meditation practices and teaches them in a supportive way, with clarity and joy.

Her interests include working with nada (sound) as a means of healing and harmonising, with prana (the life force) for balance, and with mantra (sacred syllables).

Brahmananda (Narendra Bharwaney) first became involved with Satyananda Yoga in 1987, and in the years since then he has returned to India many times to continue his yogic studies. He has been teaching full time since 2003 in adult education, special needs, schools & colleges, and one-to-one.

He is a Director of the Satyananda Yoga Academy (Europe) and one of the teaching staff on the recently established Yogic Studies Course in Hungary.

Katyayani

Katyayani (Kerry Gallagher) has been practising yoga since 1998 and teaching since 2003. Her commitment to Satyananda Yoga takes her to India regularly.

Her experience as a secondary school teacher has given her an insight into the needs for the development of the whole personality in children and adults alike. She is a Director of RYE UK, and has taught in adult education, schools (both teachers & students), and colleges.

Kripa (Catherine Grace)

I came to yoga when my gym and swim class closed, and immediately knew that the combination of asana, pranayama and yoga nidra was what I had been looking for. I particularly value the inclusivity of the Satyananda tradition and the way we are encouraged to go at our own pace and ability.

I enjoy teaching young people and am awed by their abilities; but I also have a special empathy for the older generation who, like me, have so much more to unlearn.

Krishnadhyanam

Krishnadhyanam (Richard Roberts) has been teaching and developing his SING OUT voicework and Nada Yoga workshops since 1980. Inspired initially by work with the Roy Hart Theatre (France) he has studied in Trivandrum & Varanasi (India) and with Gilles Petit in France and England.

Lilamurti (Lynn Parrott) has been practising yoga since 1995 and completed her Satyananda yoga teacher training in 2000. She completed the BWY Yoga for Children Module in 2001 and recently became one of the Directors of RYE UK (Research on Yoga in Education).

She teaches children's classes at the Satyananda Yoga Centre and also a gentle class for students with medical conditions such as ME and MS.

Nadashakti

Nadashakti (Craig Norris) came to Satyananda Yoga after practising in many other traditions. From his first Satyananda class he was captivated by the subtle yet deep teachings of the Bihar School. As well as a strong interest in the spiritual elements of yoga, he is passionate about using yoga as a therapeutic tool. He has also trained in pregnancy yoga and is studying yoga therapy at the Yoga Biomedical Trust, London.
